About Us

The American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter at the university of Oklahoma was created to assist the development of Civil Engineering students into capable and professional practicing civil engineers. Students are acquainted with team working skills, and opportunities for networking with practicing engineers are provided.

Through the the lectures at the meetings, students are informed of issues facing engineers and advances in civil engineering disciplines. In addition, the students make contacts that will be useful to them in the search for jobs.

Through projects like the concrete canoe and the steel bridge, the students gain practical experience in many facets of civil engineering, including design, analysis through such methods as the finite element method, construction, the writing of a report, an oral presentation, and the managing and orchestration of the whole project.

Activities like the student faculty olympics and the faculty roast promote good fellowship between the faculty and the students, and allow the students and faculty to know each other much better. This helps both the students and faculty understand each other and work together better on research projects and other opportunities for cooperative efforts.
