Spring 2007

April 30, 2007: CONGRATULATIONS!!!! The Concrete Canoe team successfully defended their conference championship at Mid-Continent regionals at the University of Kansas. They swept all races on Saturday to edge SIU-Edwardsville overall. They now advance to nationals in Seattle at the University of Washington in mid-June. The geotech team finished 2nd , while impromptu design finished 1st in accuracy in their trebuchet design. Check out the canoe page for more.

April 30, 2007: There will an ASCE-OKC meeting this Thursday (May 3rd). Carpooling is available at 5:45 PM at Fears Lab. Kevin Miller, a chief engineer for PSI, will be presenting "So Why the Heck Do Geotechnical Engineers Need All Those Borings?". Dinner will be provided.

April 2nd, 2007: There will an ASCE-OKC meeting this Thursday (April 5th). Carpooling is available at 5:30 PM at Fears Lab. This is a great opportunity for students to network with practicing
engineers in the area.  If you are hoping to get an internship this summer and don't have one yet this is the perfect opportunity to get your name out there. 

In addition, Al Kaplan from Marathon Oil's Special Projects division will be our speaker for this month's OU-ASCE meeting on April 19th. Food will be provided by Legends.

January 23rd, 2007: The first ASCE student chapter meeting of the semester will be held on Thursday, January 25th at 7 pm in Willoughby Lounge. Pizza and
drinks will be provided.  Terracon will be presenting the use of dynamic compaction during the site preparation for the new Dell facility in Oklahoma City. 

Fall 2006

November 9th, 2006: The 2006-07 Concrete Canoe calendar can now be viewed at the canoe webpage. This is not a final schedule, so everything can be subject to change.

October 23rd, 2006: Engineering Open House will be held on November 3rd from 9 am-3 pm. There will be a booth in Sarkeys Energy Center and a Balsa Wood Bridge Competition in Carson S-20. Volunteers can contact Lauren Parrish for more information.

October 2nd, 2006: Thanks to everyone who attended the ASCE-OU golf tournament at Jimmie Austin. Chris Harlin's foursome won with a score of 62. Evan Ludwig won closest to the pin and Dr. Cerato (somehow) won the longest drive contest. The tournament was a fantastic success. Thanks again to everyone.

September 28th, 2006: The next ASCE-OKC meeting will be held on October 5th. Carpooling will be available. Contact Lauren Parrish for more info.

September 25th, 2006: A reminder to everyone (that's you reading this) that the ASCE-OU golf tournament is this Friday, September 29th, 2006 at the Jimmie Austin OU golf course. Check out the tournament brochure under events for details. Come out and support the OU student chapter! In other news, the ASCE-OKC meeting for October is scheduled for Thursday, October 5th. Let Lauren Parrish know if you want to go.

September 18th, 2006: Anybody who wants to volunteer for the September 29th ASCE-OU golf tournament should contact Chris Harlin as soon as possible.

September 11th, 2006: Remember that there is a Concrete Canoe meeting tonight at Fears Lab at 7 pm. Check the Concrete Canoe page for new 2007 rules and regulations. Also, ASCE will be having its general meeting with ASME on September 14th at 7 pm at Willoughby Lounge in Felgar Hall.

September 1st, 2006: The first general ASCE meeting will be held in conjunction with ASME on Thursday, September 14th at a place TBD. In addition, the September ASCE-OKC meeting is on Thursday the 7th. Concrete Canoe will be on the 11th. See the Events column for all Fall 2006 activities.

August 28th, 2006: Welcome to the 2006-07 school year. ASCE will be speaking on September 1st with EWB and ESSA in Dr. Kolar's CEES Seminar class.

August 28th, 2006: Congratulations to the Concrete Canoe team at Nationals in Stillwater. They finished 16th in a tough competition back in June. University of Wisconsin-Madison won the competition for the 4th straight year. Congratulations once again for representing OU and ASCE proudly.

Spring 2006

May 9th: Good luck to everyone with finals, and remember that ASCE is having its senior cookout at Fears Lab on Friday the 12th at 2:00 PM.

May 5th: More news on Concrete Canoe nationals being held at OSU in June can be viewed on the Concrete Canoe page.

May 3rd: Congratulations to the Geotech team (Gyratory Compactors) for placing 2nd in regionals at Missouri-Columbia. In addition, Concrete Canoe placed 1st in oral presentation, design paper, and races, advancing the team to nationals in Stillwater. The Steel Bridge team also had a good time as well. Congratulations once again to all of the participants representing ASCE-OU.

April 19th: The site is finally updated again! The ASCE-OU Concrete Canoe/ Steel Bridge/ Geotech Teams are preparing for the regionals at Missouri-Columbia from April 27th-29th.

Fall 2005

November 11th: ASCE Meeting Tonight in Willoughby Lounge at 6:30. Jim Nevels from ODOT Materials division will be speaking. Officer elections are coming up; we will be talking about them.

October 24th: ASCE general chapter meeting on Thursday night, October 27th, in Willoughby Lounge. The ASCE Young Members Group will be talking.

October 24th: SEES tomorrow! Be at the east side of Carson at 2:00 or meet us at Truman Elementary at 2:30.

September 21st: Concrete canoe meeting Friday 12:30 to 1:30 in S20. There will be free food.

September 21st: ASCE general chapter meeting Thursday night at 6:30 in Willoughby Lounge. Tony Reid will be the speaker; he is the ASCE district head. Free food will be provided

September 16th: Canoe paddling practice tomorrow! We will be meeting at Fears at 8:45; the practice will be at the pond in the Summit Lake residential area at 9:00, for about 3 hours. The rules of the competition are now in.

September 16th: Cobb Engineering is holding a "college day" on Friday, September 23rd from 4 to 7 PM. They are inviting engineering and technology students to their company for a tour and food. More information is in their flyer.

September 13th: We have been back in school now for two weeks and the time has come to help out your community school district.

The ASCE has adopted the SEES projects for Truman elementary (in the neighborhood behind the mall on main) and we are looking for volunteers to help with the kids. It is very exciting and you gain a lot from helping the kids.

The first event for Truman is Sept 27. If you need help finding the school we will arrange a carpool and be taking the CEES van. To be part of this exciting event meet on the east side of Carson at 2:00 on the 27th.

September 2nd: ASCE welcome picnic will be held today at Fears Lab after Fall Fest. It starts at 4:30 PM, food will be served around 5:00. There will be fun activites.

September 2nd: Fall Fest today! The ASCE tent will be out there from 11:00 to 3:00.

August 8th: The Illinois River Trip will be on August 13th. We will meet at Fears Lab at 6 AM and will return in the early evening. Please bring a sack lunch so you will have something to eat; I suggest you pack it in plastic bags.

Also bring a towel, sun screen, proper attire, and anything else you deem necessary. Transportation will be set up for the trip but we ask that people please bring 5$ in case we have to pay for a permit. Please let me know if you will be able to attend. Thanks

August 8th: Registration for the fall FE exam will be Thursday, September 1, from 9 AM to 2 PM, in the Carson central area.

July 20th: We will be having an ASCE-OU benefit golf tournament on Friday, October 14th at the Jimmie Austin OU golf course. Full details are available in the tournament brochure (2.3 mb).

SPRING 2005

May 18th: Pictures from the concrete canoe regional competition are now up.

April 25th: SEES event tomorrow. We will be going to Truman Elementary School to teach the kids about electricity or magnetism. We will meet at 2:00 on the East side of Carson, and will be back before 6:00

April 20th: There is a Student-Faculty olympics event, kickball and perhaps soccer, at Fears Lab this Friday, April 22nd.

April 20th: The next ASCE Meeting will be in the Dean's Conference Room, CEC 100, at 6:30 PM. Jim Sullins is the speaker; he will discuss professional licensure.

April 12th: There will be a normal evening meeting Thursday April 21st in the Dean's Conference Room, CEC 100.. Jim Sullins will be the speaker.

April 12th: There will be a meeting next Monday, at 7:00 PM in the Associates and Regents Room in the Union. ExxonMobil is the presenter...They will present information for all Engineering students, then split into multiple rooms for presentations geared toward the individual disciplines.

April 11th: Regional competition results:

Overall the team finished a very close second to Oklahoma State, with Missouri-Rolla coming in 3rd.

March 31st: Report from the Canoe and Bridge teams:

The bridge was disqualified because of aesthetic reasons and too many errors. They were not allowed to load it.

The canoe passed the swamp test. The presentations are tomorrow.  There are a lot of canoes there………and OSU is telling people that they are the “original champions.”   Grrrrrrr…….

March 30th: Field trip April 7th to Coreslab prestressing yard. We will leave from the east side of Carson at 9:20 AM, and the tour will begin at 10:00. It should be over around 12:00.

March 30th: ASCE meeting April 6th at 12:30 PM in the CE conference room. Jim Coch, from Pacheco and Coch in Dallas (www.pkce.com) will be the speaker. Food is provided.

March 30th: The Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge teams left this morning for regionals in Edwardsville, Illinois, near St. Louis. The regional is being hosted by Southern Illinois.

March 23rd: Correction! The SEES event is NEXT week, that is, March 29th. There was a miscommunication...Sorry for the confusion!

March 22nd: SEES event today! We will be heading to Truman Elementary. Come join the fun and teach science to the kids. Meet at 2:00 on the east side of Carson. We will be getting back at 4:30, so you who have class at that time won't miss anything. Contact Colby if you have any questions.

March 22nd: The next ASCE meeting will be this Thursday, the 24th, at Coach's (102 W. Main Street). All of CEES will be there, including us, Chi Epsilon, and ESSA. Dillard Hammett and Bui Dao will talk about "Taking Your Education to Work." The food will be served at 6:00 PM, and the speakers will start at 6:30 PM. Be sure to show up!

March 9th: Lunch meeting today at 12:30 in CE 333. Lunch will be provided. Darian Butler from ODOT is the speaker.

March 8th: On April 7th we will be having a field trip to a prestressing yard. Details will be forthcoming.

March 8th: The next evening meeting will be held March 24th at 6:00 PM at Coach's. Dinner will be provided.

March 7th: There will be a service project meeting Wednesday after the ASCE meeting, about 1:30 PM in S20. Our handicap dock project will be discussed.

March 5th: We will be having a ASCE Lunch meeting at 12:30 on Wednesday March 9th in the CEES conference room, CE 333. Darian Butler from ODOT will talk about the ODOT bridge squad. And lunch.

March 1st:

The new improved and approved logo is now here!

March 1st: ASCE-OU won first prize from the University Student Advisory Board in the website competition among the engineering student organizations.

March 1st: CEES won the E-Week Engineering Olympics! Thanks to all who participated! Go by the CEES office to see the trophy.

March 1st: CEES recieved second place and Outstanding Recognition for our donations to the canned food drive. We donated over $1000 in cash and cans!

February 18th: Student Faculty Olympics bowling will be held this afternoon at AMF Norman Lanes 1330 E. Lindsey, from 4 to 6 PM. Be there!

February 18th: OEF Engineering Fair information added. The 24th Annual OEF Engineering Fair will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2005, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Omniplex in Oklahoma City; N.E. 52nd Street @ Martin Luther King Blvd.

February 16th: E-Week Engineering Olympics is coming up on Monday February 21st, from 1 to 5 PM. CEES needs a team of at least 20 to compete. Email Regina at rec@ou.edu if you are interested.

February 14th: More information on our West Point Bridge Contest for high schoolers has been added. Deadline for national qualifying is February 28th.

February 14th: The job board is now functioning! Check it out.

February 11th: SEES event: come help teach the kids at Truman Elementary School on Tuesday, February 22. We will be doing electricity experiments with them. Contact Colby Sandburg (Colby@ou.edu) for more information.

February 11th: The Student Faculty Olympics on the 18th will be held at AMF Norman Lanes 1330 E. Lindsey, from 4 to 6 PM.

February 8th: The first Student-Faculty Olympics event will be bowling, held Friday February 18th. The location will be announced soon.

February 8th: There will be no ASCE meeting tomorrow...We hope to reschedule it to an evening, perhaps next week.

February 8th: Casting went excellently; it only took 2 hours (as opposed to 8 last year.)

February 4th: Concrete Canoe casting tonight! Come out to Fears Lab. Free food. Starting at 4:30, goes till we're done. Which could be a while. We need all the help we can get!

February 1st: Check out our local West Point Bridge Contest. The national qualifying round ends February 28th, but contestants can still submit their design to our local contest.

January 31st: There is an ASCE-OKC dinner meeting at 50 Penn Place on Thursday, February 3rd. The speaker will be Alan Stevenson; he will be discussing smart transportation systems. If you want to attend this, please RSVP at giebler@ou.edu by Tuesday, February 1st at 9:00pm, and the department will pick up the $15 fee. If you RSVP and do not attend, then we will ask you to cover the $15 fee.

January 31st: The steel bridge team, headed by Jarvis Walters, will be meeting on Thursday at 7:00 PM at Fears Lab to work out teams and to coordinate a "game plan."

January 25th: The Concrete Canoe casting will take place on February 4th at Fears Lab! We need lots of help. Food and drinks will be provided.

January 13th: The first ASCE General Meeting will be at 6:30 PM on Thursday, January 27th, in Willoughby Lounge. Free food! Dr. Amy Cerato will be the speaker.
