Sponsorship

For over 30 years the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has organized a concrete canoe competition between student ASCE Chapters and Clubs. This competition entails designing, building, and racing a canoe made of concrete. A professional design report and oral presentation complete the competition. The University of Oklahoma is among the top teams in the nation. The OU Concrete Canoe team has advanced from the Regional Competition to Nationals 6 times. In 2003, OU's team placed received 5th place in the nation. Recently, the team finished 7th place in 2007.

This competition however, requires significant financial resources. Production of a high quality canoe requires help from sources outside the University.  Donations of money and materials are essential to succeed in the competition.

The educational effects and professional experience of this competition justify the financial and material donations that must be contributed from outside sources. In addition to learning about engineering design first-hand, students learn how to work as a team and develop leadership and networking skills. The students who participate in this competition  adjust more easily to work in engineering industry and consulting.

For the reasons outlined above, the University of Oklahoma ASCE chapter asks that you consider making a tax-deductible contribution to this year's Concrete Canoe team. This contribution could be in the form of materials and/or money. In return the team would like to offer advertisement for your company. For any donation we offer a link to your company website on our concrete canoe page. For particularly large donations ($1000 or larger) we offer advertising space on our trailer. The trailer has been from Washington D.C. to Wisconsin to Seattle, Washington.

To make a tax-deductible contribution, checks should be made payable to:
University of Oklahoma Foundation, with “Concrete Canoe” written in on the memo line, and mailed to:
