Water Quality and Water Quantity. Students in this research focus use field techniques to examine the water quality deterioration of contaminated ecosystems. Ecosystem scale studies for sustainable environments will require a team effort. Dr. Strevett 's research groups work in an interdisciplinary team environment to examine surface and ground water quality, development of indicators of water quality deterioration, biogeochemical cycling, environmental microbiology projects.

Fluvial Geomorphology. Traditionally, when a stream bank begins to erode, material is placed on the bank to stop erosion. The goal of this action is to have erosion resilient material line the bank, “protecting” it from the force of the moving water. However, does this method really work, or are we just covering up the real problem? Student work on understanding stream form and function and utilize natural channel design to develop sustainable solutions.

Service Learning and Educational Outreach. In an attempt to encourage kids to become excited about science and engineering, a week-long summer program was developed for kids in grades K-6. In the summer, 30 kids are selected for the Discovering Science and Engineering Program week. In addition, site prgrams are offered to regional schools.
