Tom Clasen is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. His research focuses on water and sanitation in low-income populations including randomized trials of novel filtration technologies, WHO reports on scaling up household water treatment and the role of the intervention in achieving MDG water targets, He holds an MSc (Control of Infectious Diseases) and PhD from the University of London, and a JD from Georgetown University.

Dr. Derek E. Chitwood
Drinking Water Issues and Proposed Solutions for Indigenous
Peoples in Mountainous Southwest China

Dr. Derek E. Chitwood earned his doctoral degree from the University of Southern California in Environmental Engineering. He is the director of technical operations for Partners in Hope, a nonprofit, charity organization based in China. For the past 8 years he and his family have lived in Yunnan Province in southwest China working to provide clean drinking water to the indigenous poor.

He is currently leading one of the most successful Safe Water System programs in PSI/Ethiopia as Marketing and Communication Director. He has contributed to major scientific studies in the area of Point of Use water treatment products. Gezahegn has studied Microbiology and has his M.S. degree in Rural Development.

Her primary appointment is in the Hubert Department of Global Health at the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University, and she holds joint appointments in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and the Department of Epidemiology.
