The University of Oklahoma Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP), is designed for the recruitment and retention of students who contribute to the diversity of the College of Engineering. The program provides services primarily for underrepresented populations, which include African American, American Indian, Hispanic, and First Generation students. Academic and professional support includes a freshman orientation course, tutoring, career and employment assistance, as well as a scholarship program.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR OF DIVERSITY AND MEP
On behalf of the College of Engineering and our Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP) I would like to welcome all the new incoming first year students, returning students, and our AT&T Summer Bridge Scholars. Summer was very busy and fall is proving to be just as exciting!
This past year was an amazing school year and 2007-2008 holds a lot of memories for our program and for our students. We were awarded a $1M dollar endowment from AT&T for the Engineering Summer Bridge program and we have also received additional support and funding for various BP Summer camps that will kick off this June, 2008.
As I am beginning year three as director of this program and my students are still challenging and intellectual enough to keep me on my toes, and the program is shaping out to meet the needs of individuals. We have expanded our programs to include students from many diverse groups and have also included mandatory tutoring for ALL scholarship recipients! For those of you who are freshman, that is not a change, but for those of you who are rising juniors with shaky GPA’s please be prepared to receive emails and phone calls! Other significant changes include the following:
- NO MEP/OKAMP SCHOLARSHIP CHECKS, will be dispersed prior to drop/add enrollment period each semester
- All renewal scholars must reapply with a competitive pool of applicants each year
- All MEP Scholars must schedule an appointment to meet with me prior to being awarded a MEP scholarship - please show up on time or we will have to reschedule as I have many appointments each day
- As an MEP Scholar, you are expected to maintain a 3.0 GPA. Take initiative to contact me if you find yourself at risk of maintaining a 3.0 GPA
I am eager to see what our Multicultural Engineering Program can do to meet your needs, and how we as a college can help you succeed as a student. Need tutoring? We can provide you a tutor for a specific course or give you general help in our group tutoring sessions. Need support regarding resumes and graduate school? We can provide resources for those concerns as well.
Bring your friends because everyone is welcome in MEP, please come by our office to see what we can do to help you reach your goals in the College of Engineering.
